Concrete Sealing 101: Best Practices for Australian Sun, Rain & Salt

Sealing is one of the most cost-effective ways to protect concrete surfaces and keep them looking new for longer.

Types of Sealers

  1. Penetrating (impregnating) - soaks in, no surface film, natural look
  2. Topical acrylic / solvent-based - glossy “wet look”, film-forming
  3. Hybrid silane/siloxane - best water & salt resistance for coastal areas

Australian Climate Considerations

  • Coastal QLD/NSW/WA - high salt & UV → choose salt-resistant penetrating sealers
  • Southern states (VIC, TAS, SA) - freeze-thaw rare but moisture critical → breathable sealers
  • Inland hot/dry → UV protection essential to prevent fading & dusting

Application Best Practices

  • Clean thoroughly (pressure wash + degreaser)
  • Repair cracks first
  • Apply in shade, early morning or late afternoon
  • 2 thin coats better than 1 heavy coat
  • Allow full cure (24-72 hours) before foot/vehicle traffic

How Often to Reseal

  • Exposed driveways: every 2-4 years
  • Covered patios/floors: every 4-7 years
  • High-traffic commercial: annual inspection

A quality sealer can add 10-15 years of life and significantly reduce staining.

We offer professional sealing packages with premium Australian-made products.
